POSITION:                              Prepress Technician/Retoucher

ACCOUNTABLE TO:                  Director of Studio Production



Produce print ready files, proofs and final digital materials for publication and press. Provide image retouching, color correction and compositing on assigned projects across all disciplines. In addition, produce materials for creative presentations, new business and internal projects as needed. Includes file management and archiving of files through final production.





File Prep and Production

- Lead technician in the final production of all prepress files.

- Collaborates with Digital Techs to ensure accuracy of digital production files.

- Reviews all images and prepress file specifications with Digital Techs and Producers prior to compositing files.

- Maintains consistent file preparation to ensure that accurate files are created and/or sent to publications or vendors.

- Pre-flights and checks all artwork for correct press or usage to ensure adherence to SWOP/GRACOL standards. 

- Manufactures high-quality print (PDF) files with supporting Epson color proofs and laser mockups, if applicable,

  for release to Producers.

- Works with Producers to oversee the management of the pre-press workflow and facilitate proof approvals.

- Confirms all production deadlines with Producer.

- Makes all requested changes/corrections promptly and correctly.

- Communicates as necessary with Producer or Production Lead to eliminate and prevent errors and problems.

- Assists in the collection and distribution of assets for preparation of production artwork as necessary.

- Assists in organizing, monitoring, archiving, and maintaining files on the server.

- Oversees the proper filing and archiving of final job materials upon completion of job.

- Identifies and embraces great creative and helps to produce the best work in the category.

- Performs other essential duties as assigned from time to time, to meet the changing needs of the agency.



- Collaborates with Production and Design teams to retouch and color correct photographic images to  
  achieve desired results. Review and discuss image production throughout process with assigned team members.

- Reviews projects and advises Producer/Art Director on best method of execution of approved concept via 
  scan/illustration/retouching techniques.

- Evaluates, retouches and scans original artwork per creative and production specifications to achieve reproduction
  quality output.




- AAS degree, Bachelor’s degree or higher, equivalent experience (digital tech).

- 2 years of retouching, color management and file preparation preferred.

- Expertise using Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator.

- Familiarity with large format printing/output, mounting and creating dimensional mockups.
- Photography or Photo Studio experience helpful.

- Basic skills in 3D program(s) (i.e., Cinema 4D, Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya) preferred but not required.

- Working knowledge of motion graphics program (Adobe After Effects) a plus but not required.
